Selection Process

  As you continue to investigate Restaurant and Retail Management career opportunities with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, the following outline will help you to understand how our selection process works.

  1. Your resume will be reviewed by a Field Management Recruiter who will determine if you meet the minimum experience requirements for the position desired.

  2. Each candidate meeting our minimum experience requirements is given a brief telephone interview by the Field Management Recruiter or Recruiting Coordinator. The interview is designed to verify the candidate’s experience, availability, job and salary expectations. After this first step, the Recruiter or Recruiting Coordinator may schedule a personal appointment with the candidate.

  3. Qualified candidates will receive an information packet that will include a blank Fair Credit Reporting Act Disclosure Statement and Authorization and Reference Sheet and Background Verification . The information will also include a list of the Essential Functions for the position, history about Cracker Barrel, training information, a benefit summary, our Locator Map and a Sample Menu.

  4. Qualified candidates will meet with a Field Management Recruiter. During this informational session, the Recruiter will review the completed Application, the Fair Credit Act Form and the Reference Sheet(s). The candidate will also have the opportunity to learn more about Cracker Barrel and the position for which s/he is applying.

    Each candidate will be given a written skills assessment consisting of business reasoning questions and a background information inventory. Upon completion of these assessments, each candidate will participate in a one-on-one structured interview with the Field Management Recruiter. This interview should last between 30 minutes and 60 minutes. This first meeting, in its entirety, should last between 2 and 3 hours.

  5. Each candidate selected to continue in our hiring process will be required to have a pre-employment drug screening (where state law permits) within 72 hours of the personal interview. The Company pays for this drug screening and you will be given a toll-free number to call for the nearest lab site in your area(s).

  6. Cracker Barrel does verify your present and past work history including your salary. We also verify all educational degrees where applicable. (We do not require a college degree for management level positions.) The Company utilizes a third party, which checks and verifies the items and references, criminal background, if any, and ascertains that the candidate possesses a valid driver’s license.

  7. Some candidates may be asked to, or may request, an interview with a District Manager. This in-person, structured interview may take place at one of our Cracker Barrel locations. This interview should last between 30 and 45 minutes.

  8. The job offer decision will be made upon the completion and review of the entire selection process. (All offers are made verbally by a Field Management Recruiter, followed by a New Hire confirmation letter.)
   Although this process may seem lengthy and detailed, it ensures that Cracker Barrel hires the most qualified and best-suited Managers to help us meet our mission of “pleasing people.” It also ensures that all candidates are treated with fairness and consistency.
