Cracker Barrel History

Cracker Barrel History

Founder Dan Evins opened the first Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Lebanon, Tennessee in 1969. The store was a phenomenal success and the company grew beyond Danny's wildest dreams. In 1980, with 20 locations throughout Tennessee and Georgia, the company went public and was named "Best Stock Pick" by Money Magazine.

By 1990, the company had grown and prospered to nearly 90 stores. That was the year Restaurant and Institutions magazine first named Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® the "Best Family Dining Restaurant," an honor we would win for 18 consecutive years.

Today there are more than 580 Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurants and retail shops in 41 states. Michael Woodhouse is the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. Company founder Dan Evins was named Chairman Emeritus in 2004.
